Jan Cressman-Weiss Realistic Landscapes, Oil and Acrylic art classes, Face painting; Parties I live on the land that my brother Jim Weiss and I were born on. I am a member of St. James Lutheran Church, on the executive of the New Dundee Board of Trade, a life member of the Women's Institute ( from which I am taking a break), and a founding member of the Juvenile Diabetes Reseach Foundation, K-W Branch. I have two sons, Michael and Jeffery, and a daughter-in-law Michelle. My children are very supportive of me - helping to load the van for art shows, and maintenance around my home. We enjoy weekly Wednesday night dinners. I live in a very peaceful setting - which gives inspiration to my painting, as well as to my students. The views out my windows are very serene: Joe and Audrey on top of the hill, Carrie's cows and calves grazing outside my studio windows, Jim and Marie across the road, and out my kitchen window the tops of the trees of my parents' bush, owned by Robert and Janet Richmond. From the time I can remember, I was obsessed with painting and horses. I have been fortunate enough to own several registered Quarter Horses - my favourite was Boca Chico. I paint - as well as teach painting, out of my house. Dreams don't get much better than that! The horses are gone - but I have a two year-old Blue Heeler-Lab cross called Leona and an l8 year old cat called Millie - who is definitely the boss of Leona. My classes are on Monday evenings from 7 - 9 pm. and Wednesdays 9:30 - l2 noon. Children's classes are Thursdays 4 - 6 pm and Saturday mornings 9:30 - 11:30 am. I love teaching and my students are producing amazing work. The adult classes have been described as "homey" - very comfortable and non-threatening. The children must be serious about art - the classes are fun and they pick what they would like to paint. They enjoy the hot chocolate and cookies. I may add another children's class thi s summer if necessary. My art work is done mostly in oils and acrylics; some watercolour. I paint a variety of subjects from a 250 year old Jesuit pear to floral gardens (my own included), a Cuban mule and Koi fish. I really enjoy landscapes. I accept commissions. I have over 30 limited edition reproductions which I personally frame. I have a good eye for framing and help customers find what suits their taste and their art work. I market mainly with shows throughout Ontario, from Windsor to Timmons. At present I am cutting back on shows and concentrating on teaching, custom framing and commissions.
